Byung-Yun came to England in 1992 to further his studies in violin and conducting, graduating from the London College of Music and Kingston University. He has studied under Gerhard Schmidt, Lawrence Leonard, William Webb, Peter Stark, Edward Ho, and Sir Colin Davis.

Byung-Yun once interviewed Mstislav Rostropovich for the magazine Auditorium, greatly impressing the renowned cellist and conductor with his knowledge of classical music. Byung-Yun’s conducting engagements have included working and performing with Kingston Philharmonia, the London Korean Symphony Orchestra, the London College of Music Chamber Orchestra, the Rehearsal Orchestra at the Edinburgh Festival and both the Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Kingston University. He has also been a guest conductor for the Abbeye Ensemble and the Beethoven Chamber Orchestra in London and has an engagement with the Karnata Symphony Orchestra in India. As resident Musical Director of Thames Philharmonia he conducts regular concerts at the Landmark Arts Centre in south-west London, and an annual concert in Kent with the Tonbridge Festival Orchestra.
